Local wood artisans showed their talents last week during the Sears Trostel 14th Annual Woodworking Show, Sale & Competition, February 9-11. Thanks to all who participated!
We also thank Roy Kennedy of Wurth Louis and Company, Skip Winne of High Country Fine Furniture, and Karen Jackson of Dale’s Carpet One for taking on the challenge of judging the competition and choosing winners from 47 entries. Pieces were evaluated on creativity, workmanship and finish.
While all the entries are winners in our eyes, here are those that placed in the competition.

Since the inception of Bread N Boards in 2005, the 'bread' in Bread N Boards has always been Great Harvest Bread.Â
With the company’s mission to “BE loose and have FUN! Bake phenomenal bread. Run fast to serve others. & GIVE generously.â€, it’s a natural fit with what Bread N Boards is all about. The blending of simple, natural ingredients to create something with goodness in mind.
As the event has grown, the committment of our local Great Harvest Bread Co. has grown, too.
The first year we had just a few hundred boards at the event — which now has grown to over a thousand — and every board sold has gone home with a certificate for a FREE loaf of bread. That’s a lot of bread!
The owner of the Great Harvest of Fort Collins locations, Julie Damschroder, has remained steadfast in being ‘the bread’ in Bread N Boards, giving much from a financial perspective, as well as being the one to personally supply and serve bread samples at each year’s event.
WE THANK JULIE, AND HOPE YOU WILL, TOO.  Stop by the two Fort Collins locations to say thanks in person, and take home some of the BEST bread you’ll ever taste!Â

Recycle. Repurpose. Reclaim. We hear those words used a lot these days -- especially in the lumber industry. Increased numbers of older structures are being carefully dismantled -- rather than demolished -- and more fallen trees are being salvaged.
With the call to preserve our natural resources, Reclaimed Products are becoming favored choices for home interiors, architectural elements and crafting projects. Watch shows on HGTV and DIY Network, or cruise websites like houzz.com and Pinterest, and you’ll find them being used in a multitude of ways. These materials add a warmth and sense of history that their newer counterparts may lack.
With the increased popularity of reclaimed products, finding sources for them is becoming more challenging. But finding them in Fort Collins has become a lot easier!
Â
Â
Sears Trostel is your local connection for reclaimed beams & mantels, reclaimed lumber, reclaimed corrugated tin and live-edge urban salvaged wood slabs for use in DIY and commercial construction projects.
Â
Read about reclaimed materials in the September 2016 issue of Lydia’s Style
Hand Hewn Beams & Mantelscollected from 100+ year-old structures make a beautiful statement in any style of home — from vintage to contemporary. In-stock sizes range from 4â€x8†to 10â€x10†in varying lengths, or special order custom sizes.
Reclaimed Pine and Fir Lumber sourced from windbreaks and old corrals, is ideal for use in picture frames, furniture pieces, or for accent walls, and more.
To go along with the rustic character of the reclaimed woods in your projects, we also stock Reclaimed Corrugated Tin panels in three different patinas -- Grey, Light and Heavy. Full panels are 26" wide x 12' long.
Here at Sears Trostel we love to help our customers express creativity with wood and bring their great ideas to life. With the recent popularity of using reclaimed wood in construction and home interior projects, we’ve responded by providing a large selection of reclaimed lumber, beams, mantels, and corrugated tin at our Riverside store.

The General Finishes Design Center provides hundreds ofÂ
creative ideas for using Milk Paint, like this refurbishedÂ
Now, the trend of ‘upcycling’ has added a splash of color to our retail landscape — General Finishes Milk Paint.
Upcycling takes a piece of the past and turns it into something new. Television shows like HGTVs Flea Market Flip, websites and magazines are now being devoted to the art of upcycling. Old or discarded objects are being reimagined/repurposed into unique and useful pieces.
And that is where General Finishes Milk Paint comes in. These water-based, pre-mixed and self-sealing acrylic paints (so primer isn’t necessary!) are great for bringing new life to vintage furniture and more. They can be applied over existing finishes, stains or other paints, and will adhere to a variety of surfaces including wood, fiberglass, PVC, vinyl and most composite materials. It’s both an interior and exterior paint.
Â
Â
Available in 26 colors, you can GET CREATIVE with your own upcycling project. Use it alone, mix it, distress it, layer it or glaze it.
We’re currently stocking GF’s 10 most popular Milk Paint colors…
The GF Facebook page also showcases the fantastic works of upcyclers around the country.
While we’ve carried General Finishes premium quality wood finishing, coating and flooring products for many years, the company’s Milk Paint line is new to our store — and the only place you’ll find it in Fort Collins.
Â
Â
Milk Paint dries to a low luster sheen and is durable enough to stand up to medium abuse. If maximum durability is required, apply 1 or 2 coats of GF High Performance Top Coat. While primer isn’t necessary, a stain-blocking primer is recommended if you need to seal knots, cover dark or red-colored grains (these tend to bleed), paint a light color or white over an existing finish, or if you're painting a wood that is known to bleed, such as Pine or Oak.Â
