Fall Demonstration Saturdays

October 2, 2017

Saturdays are a great time to stop by Sears Trostel and learn something new.

Ask questions and try products for yourself as our knowledgeable staff spends an hour each Saturday demonstrating tools, finishes, and discussing woodworking techniques. There’s a different topic each week.

Demonstration Saturdays are 9:30 - 10:30 am at our Riverside store. There’s no need to register and it’s FREE of charge — just come in and join us!

During the Fall series of Demonstration Saturdays from October 7 to November 18, we’ll work on a variety of projects.

Schedule:

October 7, 14, 21, 28 — Sofa Side Table

During these four Saturdays we’ll be cutting and assembling a small Sofa Side Table in Poplar and Alder wood. See the Festool Kapex Sliding Compound Miter Saw, Domino Joiner, Router and Sanders in action during the process, and learn how to create a ‘parsons joint.’

November 4 — Beer Flight Boards

9:30 in the morning is early for drinking a brew, but not for making Beer Flight Boards!  We’re going to have some fun with this easy project — making three different beer flight boards similar to the ones below. A variety of Festool power tools will be employed to create them. The flight boards will then be up for auction during the 12th Annual Bread N Boards event on Saturday, December 2, 2017 to benefit the Food Bank for Larimer County.

November 11 — Live-Edge Wood Epoxy Filling

Live-edge wood slabs make beautiful table tops. Epoxy filling cracks and inclusions in a slab smooths the surface, stabilizes these natural characteristics, and enhances the beauty of the piece. We will epoxy-fill a Walnut slab with bark inclusions, and use powder dye in the mix to fill a hole and create an opaque surface.

November 18 — Repurposing Butcherblock

We’re finding a new purpose for an end-piece of a Maple butcherblock countertop.  With the help of a Festool Rotex Sander, we’ll strip off the urethane finish, and create a 16” x 20” cutting board by re-coating with a food-safe Walnut oil finish.

See you next Saturday!
